The August 15th Daniel Mathews Jr. Memorial Golf Outing was a tremendous success, raising $10,000 for the Volunteer Lawyers Project and the Onondaga County Bar Foundation. It was a glorious summer sunny day with a refreshing breeze, which made each of the twenty competitive teams enjoy the camaraderie in getting together at the Pompey Club to support the important missions of the Volunteer Lawyers Project and the Onondaga County Bar Foundation. The Golf Outing has proven to be a cherished annual tradition in the memory of Daniel F. Mathews Jr., which continues to grow.
Congratulations go out to our top teams. The Central NY Lawyer Cup trophy was awarded to the top Bar Association foursome of Judge James C. Tormey III; Bob Jokl, Tony LaValle; and Seth Azria, who also won the Judges and Lawyers Division with their 55 stroke score for 18 holes. In the Mixed Division it was wonderful to celebrate the consistently top team of Lisa Gilels, Gus Nordone, Tom Ryan and Judge Jack Kinsella with a score of 63. The Championship Low Net was won by Lance Cimino, Jake Lovier, Tom Hoey and Matt Hoey with a score of 57. The Women’s Division was won by Jennifer Williams, Ami Longstreet, Megan Fallon and Sheila Fallon with a score of 64.
Playing in the tournament were eleven members of our esteemed judiciary, Judges: John Centra; Therese Dancks; Joseph Fahey; Robert Jokl; Jack Kinsella; Anthony LaValle; Dan Mathews; Norman Mordue; James Murphy; Anthony Paris and James C. Tormey III.
A hole-in-one incentive of a $5,000 golf vacation of your choice was provided by Lance Cimino and Stuart LaRose. Unfortunately not one of the players was able to spur a ball into the cup on the 8th; although, Matt Hoey hit a shot that landed 17 inches from the pin. The putting contest did provided a win for Judge Jokl who won a Keurig Coffee Maker provided by W. B Mason. Dr. Ken Reagles provided a Callaway Hybrid 3 club which elicited a lively auction.
The Golf Outing Committee: Lance Cimino as Chair, Nancy Caple, Katherine Cook, Sally Curran, Anthony Gigliotti, George Lowe, Paul Mullin and Deborah O’Shea — were a terrific team in planning this year’s outing and in making many significant changes and improvements.
