Proposed Amendments
to Rules Governing Lawyer Advertising
July 20, 2006
There
has been a 60-day extension of
the comment period for the new
proposed attorney advertising
rules to November 15 and the new
rules' effective date has been
moved from November 1 to
January 15, 2007.
The
four Presiding Justices of the
Appellate Divisions have approved
for public comment the attached
proposed amendments to those
provisions of the Disciplinary Rules
of the Code of Professional
Responsibility governing advertising
and solicitation of business by
attorneys. The amendments
extensively revise section 1200.6
[DR 2-101] of the Rules, addressing
the content of advertisements, and
contain new limitations on
solicitations relating to incidents
involving potential claims for
personal injury and wrongful death.
They also bring the rules into the
computer age. The
amendments are to become effective
on November 1, 2006.
The
Board of Directors invite you to
submit your comments to the Proposed
Amendments to Rules Governing Lawyer
Advertising for consideration by the
Board and its Professional Ethics
Committee no later
than November 15, 2006.
