This CLE covers the following:
- A basic overview on the law regarding custody, child support, divorce, and including such things as when to choose filing in Supreme Court for a divorce versus starting in Family Court with custody and child support.
- An introduction to Vera House services to help in your family court or divorce matter. A rundown of the agency’s services, but from the perspective of the practitioner, and exactly how these services help your client surmount a variety of obstacles.

Presenters:
Mary John, Esq., Staff Attorney, Volunteer Lawyers Project of Onondaga County, Inc. Mary is a 1993 graduate of SUNY Potsdam where she received a dual degree in Political Science and Speech Communications. In 1996 she graduated from Western New England College of Law. Currently Mary is the Supervising Attorney of the Family Law Unit of the Volunteer Lawyers Project of Onondaga County, Inc. She oversees the Family Court Clinic and Pro Se Divorce Clinic. Prior to working for the VLP, Ms. John was the Supervising Attorney of the Civil Program at the Frank H. Hiscock Legal Aid Society. She has served as the Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Onondaga County Bar Association. She currently serves on the Onondaga County Judiciary Committee, she is a member of the New York State Bar Association as well as a member of the New York State Bar Association Nominating Committee.
Bryn Lovejoy-Grinnell, Esq. Director of Legal Services, Vera House, Inc. Prior to her legal career, Bryn began working with victims of domestic violence at the Advocacy Center, in Ithaca, where she assisted clients in obtaining orders of protection and emergency custody of their children. These interactions spurred her to attend law school. Upon graduation from Cornell Law School, for eight years, she was a Senior Attorney in the Domestic Violence Program at the Hiscock Legal Aid Society, representing victims of domestic violence in divorces and family law matters. Following this, she was in private practice with both Melvin & Melvin, PLLC and Bousquet Holstein PLLC. She is the first director of legal services Vera House has ever had, and joined that agency in late-fall 2018. She is a graduate of Harvard University and is a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association and the Central New York Women’s Bar Association.
David Primo, Esq. Mr. Primo received his undergraduate degree from St. John Fisher College in political science and is a law school graduate of the University of Dayton, 1983. He spent five years in the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office moving from Criminal Law Associate to a Senior Assistant District Attorney. David then became a partner in the Primo, Centra & Kirwan Law Firm until 2009. After that time, he served as the Assistant County Attorney.

- 5th Judicial District Attorney Grievance Committee – He is the committee member responsible for review of attorney misconduct and recommendation of appropriate action and a voting member of the committee recommending level of disciplinary
