NEW YORK REAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS: Who, When, Where & How

Partial or full exemptions from payment of real property taxes are enumerated in Article 4 of the Real Property Tax Law (RPTL).  This CLE will address the eligibility and requirements for the granting of frequently sought exemptions covering commercial, industrial, residential and those properties owned by not-for-profit entities.  The presenters will offer guidance on how to apply for exemptions, including timeliness (deadline for Towns is March 1st), administrative challenges of denials, and if necessary, commencing judicial review proceedings.  Commissioner David Clifford will offer the Assessor’s role in processing the applications and determining whether to grant the applicable exemption.
