Update to NYS CLE Rules for 2018 – How Does this Affect YOU?

MEMORANDUM

TO:         OCBA Members

FROM:  Carrie Chantler, CLE Coordinator

The state CLE Board has issued two updates of which you need to be aware!

First: Added to the existing CLE credit categories of Ethics and Professionalism, Skills, Law Practice Management, and Areas of Professional Practice is a new category: Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias. This category of credit becomes effective January 1, 2018.

Second: Experienced attorneys due to re-register on or after July 1, 2018 must complete at least one credit hour in the new category as part of their biennial CLE requirement. The transitional CLE requirement for newly admitted attorneys remains unchanged. Click here to learn more.

With the addition of the Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias credit category New York joins California and Minnesota two states with precedent in requiring its legal professionals possess CLE credit in this area.
